Overview

The DISC1 program is a discovery-stage research initiative by ProMIS Neurosciences focused on the development of monoclonal antibodies targeting misfolded versions of the Disrupted in Schizophrenia 1 (DISC1) protein. DISC1 is a scaffold protein that plays a critical role in neurodevelopment, neuronal migration, and intracellular signaling. Misfolding and subsequent aggregation of DISC1 have been linked to the pathophysiology of several major psychiatric and neurodevelopmental conditions. ProMIS utilizes its proprietary computational platform to identify disease-specific epitopes that are exposed only on the misfolded, toxic aggregates of the protein. This approach is intended to create selective therapies that neutralize harmful DISC1 aggregates while leaving the normally functioning protein intact, potentially offering a new treatment modality for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depression.
