Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Alkasol is an oral systemic and urinary alkalizer containing disodium hydrogen citrate as the active pharmaceutical ingredient. Developed and marketed by Stadmed Private Limited, it is primarily indicated for the treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs), gout, and kidney stones (urolithiasis). The drug works by being metabolized into bicarbonate, which increases the pH of the blood and urine. This alkalinization helps in dissolving uric acid stones, preventing the formation of new stones, and mitigating the burning sensation associated with acidic urine in UTIs. It is also utilized in the management of metabolic acidosis associated with certain renal conditions.
