Distichlis spicata pollen

Distichlis spicata pollen is an allergen extract derived from the pollen of the *Distichlis spicata* plant, commonly known as saltgrass or seashore saltgrass. [5] This product is primarily used as a diagnostic agent to identify allergic sensitivities in patients through skin testing (percutaneous or intradermal). [4] It is also indicated for use in subcutaneous immunotherapy to treat patients with a confirmed allergy to this specific pollen. [1, 4] When administered, the pollen allergens interact with IgE antibodies on mast cells in sensitized individuals, triggering the release of histamine and causing a localized allergic reaction that confirms sensitivity. [12] It is classified as a biologic material and is regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. [8, 9, 14]
