Diurisa

Diurisa is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical drug containing furosemide (40 mg) and amiloride (10 mg). Furosemide is a loop diuretic that works by inhibiting the Na+/K+/2Cl- cotransporter in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, leading to increased excretion of water, sodium, chloride, and potassium. Amiloride is a potassium-sparing diuretic that acts by blocking epithelial sodium channels (ENaC) in the distal tubule and collecting ducts, which reduces sodium reabsorption and helps to conserve potassium. This combination is used to treat edema (fluid retention) associated with conditions such as congestive heart failure, liver disease, and nephrotic syndrome, and also for hypertension. The amiloride component helps to mitigate the potassium loss often caused by furosemide alone.
