Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Diwu Fengshian is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) preparation developed by the Hubei University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, specifically designed for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The formulation is primarily based on the medicinal herb *Gynura japonica* (Thunb.) Juel, commonly known as "Diwu" in the Hubei region. It is typically indicated for RA patients categorized under the "cold-dampness obstruction" syndrome in TCM diagnostics. Pharmacologically, Diwu Fengshian acts by suppressing the inflammatory response; it inhibits the expression of key pro-inflammatory mediators, including tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and interleukin-6 (IL-6). It also modulates the NF-κB signaling pathway, which plays a central role in the pathogenesis of RA. Clinical research, primarily conducted in China, suggests that the drug effectively reduces joint swelling and pain while improving the quality of life for patients with chronic inflammatory joint diseases.
