Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dixanthogen is an organosulfur compound belonging to the class of organic disulfides, with the chemical formula C6H10O2S4. It is a thiocarbonyl compound and functions as an ectoparasiticide, historically used topically for the treatment of scabies and other ectoparasitic infections[2][3][4][7]. Its mechanism of action involves acting as a parasite inhibitor, though detailed molecular targets are not well characterized. Dixanthogens are also formed by oxidation of xanthates and play a role in mineral flotation processes in industry[5][6][8]. The drug is no longer widely available for medical use.
