DJ-01

DJ-01 is a botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A) formulation developed by the Plastic Surgery Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. It is a neuromuscular blocking agent designed for aesthetic applications, specifically the temporary improvement of moderate to severe glabellar lines (frown lines) and brow lines. The drug's mechanism of action involves the selective cleavage of the Synaptosomal-associated protein 25 (SNAP-25), a critical component of the SNARE complex required for the fusion of acetylcholine-containing vesicles with the presynaptic membrane. By inhibiting the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, DJ-01 induces localized muscle relaxation and paralysis, thereby smoothing dynamic wrinkles. It is currently undergoing Phase 3 clinical evaluation in China.
