Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DKF-MB201 is a long-acting, sustained-release formulation of octreotide, a synthetic cyclic octapeptide somatostatin analog, being developed by Dongkook Pharmaceutical for the treatment of acromegaly. Utilizing Dongkook's proprietary microsphere-based drug delivery system (DDS) platform, DKF-MB201 is designed as a 3-month depot injection, significantly extending the dosing interval from the standard 1-month regimen of existing octreotide formulations (such as Sandostatin LAR or Dongkook's own Octrin LAR). By mimicking natural somatostatin, octreotide acts as a potent agonist at somatostatin receptors (primarily SSTR2 and SSTR5), which inhibits the hypersecretion of growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) from the pituitary gland. DKF-MB201 is currently in Phase 1 clinical development.
