DKF-MB501 is a long-acting, extended-release subcutaneous injection formulation of semaglutide being developed by Dongkook Pharmaceutical for the treatment of obesity. It utilizes Dongkook's proprietary biodegradable microsphere-based drug delivery system (DDS) platform, 'DK-LADS' (Dongkook Long-Acting Delivery System), which is designed to control the drug release rate and extend the dosing interval from once-weekly to once every one to three months. By minimizing initial burst release and maintaining stable blood concentrations, DKF-MB501 aims to improve patient compliance and tolerability compared to existing weekly GLP-1 receptor agonists. The candidate is currently in preclinical development, with Phase 1 clinical trials planned to initiate in 2027.
