Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DLBS3233 + metformin is a fixed-dose combination of **DLBS3233** (a bioactive fraction derived from *Cinnamomum burmanii* and *Lagerstroemia speciosa*) and **metformin**, an established biguanide antihyperglycemic drug. DLBS3233 acts primarily as an insulin sensitizer, improving insulin resistance, enhancing GLUT4 gene expression, and promoting glucose uptake in adipocytes. It demonstrates additional effects on lipid metabolism by reducing LDL, triglycerides, and total cholesterol, with favorable effects on β-cell function and preservation. Metformin is a standard oral antihyperglycemic agent that decreases hepatic glucose production and increases insulin sensitivity. The combination has been studied in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and conditions associated with insulin resistance, showing additive and complementary effects in improving glycemic control, reducing body mass index, and supporting cardiovascular safety. The combination is generally well tolerated with most adverse events rated as mild or moderate. The developer and main manufacturer of DLBS3233 is Dexa Medica. Metformin is a widely manufactured generic small molecule.
