Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DM509 is a preclinical-stage, orally active dual modulator that acts concurrently as a farnesoid X receptor (FXR) agonist and a soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) inhibitor. Developed by researchers at Goethe University Frankfurt and the Medical College of Wisconsin, DM509 is designed to address the multifactorial pathogenesis of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). By combining partial FXR activation with potent sEH inhibition, DM509 exerts synergistic anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrotic, and lipid-lowering effects. In animal models of renal fibrosis (such as unilateral ureteral obstruction) and NASH, DM509 treatment significantly reduces collagen deposition, attenuates epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), decreases inflammatory cytokine expression, and preserves vascular density and tubular integrity without causing the severe cholesterol homeostasis disturbances typically associated with strong FXR activation.
