Overview
DMSA-Izotop is a radiopharmaceutical cold kit developed by the Institute of Isotopes Co. Ltd. (Izotop) for the preparation of Technetium-99m (99mTc) succimer. The kit contains dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) as the active ligand and stannous chloride as a reducing agent. When reconstituted with sterile sodium pertechnetate (99mTc) solution, it forms a stable complex used for Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) imaging. It is primarily indicated for renal cortical scintigraphy to evaluate renal morphology, detect focal parenchymal lesions such as scars from pyelonephritis, and assess differential renal function. The 99mTc-DMSA complex localizes in the renal cortex by binding to sulfhydryl groups in the proximal convoluted tubules, providing a clear visualization of the functional renal mass.
