DNA-C2 + MVA-C is a combination HIV-1 vaccine regimen that utilizes a heterologous prime-boost strategy. The regimen consists of two components: - **DNA-C2**: A plasmid DNA vaccine encoding HIV-1 subtype C antigens (including gag, pol, nef, and env genes). - **MVA-C**: A recombinant Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) viral vector expressing the same or similar HIV-1 subtype C antigens. This combination is designed to induce robust cellular and humoral immune responses against HIV. The typical approach involves priming with the DNA vaccine (DNA-C2) followed by boosting with the viral vector vaccine (MVA-C). This strategy has been shown in preclinical and early clinical studies to enhance both CD4+ and CD8+ T cell responses as well as antibody production against HIV envelope proteins. The vaccines are based on clade C sequences relevant for regions where this subtype predominates[1][3][4][5].
