Overview

DNA HIV-C is an investigational prophylactic DNA vaccine developed by the EuroVacc Foundation for the prevention of HIV-1 infection. It is specifically designed based on the HIV-1 subtype C (clade C) CN54 strain, which is the dominant strain in China, India, and sub-Saharan Africa. The vaccine consists of a plasmid DNA encoding two primary antigens: an artificial 160-kDa GagPolNef (GPN) polyprotein and the external glycoprotein gp120, both of which are codon-optimized for expression in human cells. In clinical development, DNA HIV-C has been evaluated as a priming agent in heterologous prime-boost regimens, typically followed by a viral vector boost such as NYVAC-HIV-C, to induce robust HIV-specific cell-mediated immune responses, including CD4+ and CD8+ T cells.
