Docetaxel is a semisynthetic taxane antineoplastic agent used as chemotherapy for various cancers, including breast cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, prostate cancer, gastric adenocarcinoma (stomach cancer), and head and neck cancers. It is a complex diterpenoid molecule derived from paclitaxel and acts primarily by promoting the assembly of microtubules from tubulin dimers while simultaneously inhibiting their disassembly. This stabilization of microtubules disrupts the normal dynamic reorganization required for mitosis and interphase cellular functions, leading to cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase and ultimately inducing apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. Docetaxel also induces phosphorylation of anti-apoptotic proteins such as bcl-2, further promoting programmed cell death. It is generally administered intravenously under medical supervision[1][3][5][8].
