Docetaxel + capecitabine is a combination chemotherapy regimen used primarily for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer, especially in patients who have previously received anthracycline-based therapy. Docetaxel is a taxane-class antineoplastic agent that stabilizes microtubules and inhibits their depolymerization, thereby blocking mitosis and inducing apoptosis in cancer cells. Capecitabine is an orally administered prodrug that is enzymatically converted to fluorouracil (5-FU) within tumor tissue; 5-FU acts as an antimetabolite by inhibiting DNA synthesis and cell division. This combination exploits complementary mechanisms to enhance cytotoxicity against rapidly dividing tumor cells. The regimen has also been studied or used in other cancers such as gastric, esophageal, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers[1][3][4][5][6][8].
