docetaxel + cisplatin + carboplatin (IFCT)

docetaxel + cisplatin + carboplatin is a combination chemotherapy regimen evaluated by the Intergroupe Francophone de Cancerologie Thoracique (IFCT) for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Specifically studied in the Phase III IFCT-0501 trial, this regimen consists of the taxane docetaxel administered alongside a platinum-based agent, either cisplatin or carboplatin. Docetaxel functions by binding to tubulin and stabilizing microtubules, thereby inhibiting mitotic division and inducing cell cycle arrest. The platinum components, cisplatin and carboplatin, act as DNA alkylating-like agents that form intra-strand and inter-strand cross-links, interfering with DNA replication and transcription to trigger apoptosis. This doublet therapy was investigated as a second-line treatment for patients who had previously relapsed after surgery and perioperative chemotherapy.
