The combination of docetaxel and enoxaparin appears to be a therapeutic regimen that has been studied in clinical trials, particularly for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This is not a fixed-dose combination product but rather two separate medications administered together as part of a treatment protocol. Docetaxel is an anti-mitotic chemotherapy medication that belongs to the taxane class. It works by stopping the growth and spread of cancer cells by inhibiting cell division[1][4]. According to search result [2], a phase II study evaluated docetaxel plus enoxaparin in patients with stage IV non-small cell lung cancer. In this study: - Enoxaparin was administered at a daily dose of 1 mg/kg subcutaneously - Docetaxel was given at an initial dose of 100 mg/m² as a 60-minute infusion every 21 days with prophylactic dexamethasone - The study showed promising results with 53% of patients achieving an objective response and four having stable disease - The median time to progression was 5 months and median survival was 11 months - No significant bleeding or thrombotic events were observed The rationale behind this combination appears to be related to the role of coagulation in tumor progression. The study found that enoxaparin in combination with chemotherapy was safe and well-tolerated in patients with advanced NSCLC, and preliminary data suggested that enoxaparin may prolong the time to progression[2]. The combination showed interesting effects on certain biomarkers: - Patients with elevated D-dimer levels who responded to therapy showed significant declines in D-dimer levels - Most patients who achieved a response or stable disease had significant reductions in TGF-beta1 levels during therapy[2] This combination represents an approach that combines traditional cytotoxic chemotherapy (docetaxel) with an anticoagulant (enoxaparin) that may have additional anti-cancer properties through its effects on coagulation pathways involved in tumor progression.
