This drug is a combination of two chemotherapeutic agents used primarily in the treatment of breast cancer. Docetaxel is a taxane that promotes microtubule assembly and inhibits their disassembly, leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Nonpegylated liposomal doxorubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic encapsulated in a conventional (non-PEG) liposome formulation, which intercalates DNA strands, inhibits topoisomerase II, and generates free radicals causing cytotoxicity. The combination leverages the distinct mechanisms of both drugs for synergistic antitumor activity with manageable toxicity profiles. This regimen has been studied as first-line therapy for metastatic breast cancer and shows high response rates[1][2][3]. Liposomal encapsulation aims to reduce cardiac toxicity compared to conventional doxorubicin.
