Docetaxel liposome is a nanoparticle-based formulation of the cytotoxic taxane docetaxel, developed by Changzhou Jinyuan Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Changzhou Pacific Pharmaceutical Research Institute. This formulation utilizes liposomal encapsulation to improve the solubility and therapeutic index of docetaxel. Conventional docetaxel formulations, such as Taxotere, require surfactants like polysorbate 80 and ethanol, which are associated with severe hypersensitivity reactions and fluid retention. The liposomal delivery system is intended to reduce these vehicle-related toxicities and potentially enhance tumor uptake via the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect. The drug has been investigated in Phase I clinical trials in China for patients with advanced solid tumors, specifically targeting breast cancer and non-small cell lung cancer.
