Overview

Nanoxel-M is a polymeric micelle-based nanoformulation of the taxane chemotherapy agent docetaxel, developed by Samyang Biopharmaceuticals (now a division of Samyang Holdings). The formulation utilizes Samyang's proprietary mPEG-PDLLA (methoxy-poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(D,L-lactide)) amphiphilic diblock copolymer technology to encapsulate docetaxel into nanoparticles with a mean diameter of 10–50 nm. This delivery system is designed to solubilize docetaxel without the use of polysorbate 80 (Tween 80) or ethanol, which are required for conventional docetaxel formulations (e.g., Taxotere) and are associated with severe hypersensitivity reactions and fluid retention. By eliminating these excipients, Nanoxel-M aims to improve the safety profile and tolerability of docetaxel therapy. The drug received approval in South Korea in 2012 for indications including breast cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. It has also been investigated for intravesical administration in non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) and systemic treatment for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
