Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Doconexent (docosahexaenoic acid or DHA) is an essential omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid that serves as a primary structural component of the human brain, cerebral cortex, skin, and retina. It plays a critical role in neurodevelopment, cognitive function, and the regulation of inflammatory pathways. Doconexent acts as an agonist at free fatty acid receptors, particularly FFAR4 (GPR120) and FFAR1 (GPR40), which mediates its anti-inflammatory and metabolic effects. In clinical development, doconexent-rich supplements have been investigated for their potential to improve fatty acid status, reduce oxidative stress, and modulate inflammatory responses in patients with cystic fibrosis, among other conditions.
