Overview

**Docosahexaenoic acid + gamma-linolenic acid** is referred to in this context as DS Biopharma's topical dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid (DGLA) cream, also known by the investigational code **DS107E**. DGLA is an omega-6 essential fatty acid that is naturally present in healthy skin but depleted in patients with atopic dermatitis. It is metabolized by cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX) enzymes to produce anti-inflammatory eicosanoids, such as 1-series prostaglandins (e.g., PGE1) and 15-HETrE, and competes with arachidonic acid to attenuate pro-inflammatory mediator synthesis. Formulated as a 1% topical cream, DS107E has been evaluated in a Phase 2 randomized, vehicle-controlled, double-blind exploratory trial in infants aged 3 to 12 months with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis, utilizing an initial alternating regimen with hydrocortisone butyrate followed by DGLA maintenance therapy.
