Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A nutritional supplement combination of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an omega-3 fatty acid found in the retina, and lutein, a carotenoid that forms part of the macular pigment. This combination has been studied for its effects on increasing macular pigment optical density (MPOD) and potentially preventing age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The compounds appear to work synergistically, with lutein supplementation increasing MPOD eccentrically while DHA results in central increases in MPOD.
