Overview

RT011 is an orally administered, isotopically (deuterium) stabilized synthetic form of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), developed by Retrotope. It is designed to combat oxidative stress and cellular degeneration caused by lipid peroxidation (LPO), a process implicated in the progression of degenerative diseases such as dry age-related macular degeneration (dry AMD) and geographic atrophy. By replacing natural DHA with chemically stabilized RT011 in retinal tissues, the drug aims to reduce uncontrolled LPO without disrupting the essential physiological role of DHA in visual function. Preclinical studies have shown that RT011 provides dose-dependent protection against retinal lipid peroxidation and cell damage while preserving visual function. The compound has demonstrated good safety in animal toxicity studies[1][3][4].
