Doctil

Doctil is a brand of cefuroxime axetil, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic developed and marketed by Maks Drug Limited in Bangladesh. As an oral prodrug of cefuroxime, it is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and rapidly hydrolyzed to the active antibiotic. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to and inactivating penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are essential enzymes for the cross-linking of peptidoglycan chains. This disruption leads to bacterial cell lysis and death. Doctil is indicated for the treatment of a wide range of infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections.
