Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dolutegravir + abacavir is a fixed-dose combination antiretroviral medication used for the treatment of HIV/AIDS. Dolutegravir is an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI) that blocks the integration of viral DNA into the host genome by binding to the integrase active site and inhibiting the strand transfer step essential for HIV replication. Abacavir is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI), specifically a guanosine analogue, which interferes with HIV reverse transcription by inhibiting viral RNA-dependent DNA polymerase, thereby preventing replication of HIV. This combination reduces viral load and increases immune cell counts in people living with HIV but does not cure the infection[5][6][8].
