Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dolutegravir + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate + lamivudine is a fixed-dose combination antiretroviral medication used as a complete regimen for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection in adults and pediatric patients weighing at least 35–40 kg. The combination consists of three agents with distinct mechanisms: dolutegravir, an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI), blocks HIV integrase and prevents integration of viral DNA into the host genome; both tenofovir disoproxil fumarate and lamivudine are nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) that inhibit reverse transcriptase, leading to chain termination during viral DNA synthesis. This regimen is recommended by the World Health Organization as first-line therapy for HIV/AIDS in adults. It is administered orally once daily as a single tablet[1][2][5].
