Overview

Domiphen is a quaternary ammonium compound primarily used as a topically administered antiseptic agent. It acts as a cationic surfactant with antimicrobial properties and is indicated for the treatment of acute infectious dental diseases and other topical infections. Domiphen exhibits potent anti-biofilm activity, disrupts microbial cell membranes, and can enhance the efficacy of other antimicrobials by inhibiting drug efflux in resistant organisms. It has also been studied for its rapid action against *Plasmodium falciparum* by interfering with energy metabolism pathways in parasites[1][2][5][6][8].
