Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Donglingcao drop pills are a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation derived from the extract of *Rabdosia rubescens* (also known as *Isodon rubescens* or Blushred Rabdosia). The primary active constituents of this botanical extract are diterpenoids, most notably oridonin and ponicidin. These compounds exhibit significant anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antibacterial properties. Oridonin, in particular, is known to inhibit the NF-kappaB signaling pathway, thereby reducing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha and IL-1 beta. The "drop pill" dosage form is specifically designed to enhance the bioavailability of the herbal extract and provide rapid relief for localized inflammation in the throat. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of sore throat and pain associated with acute pharyngitis and acute tonsillitis.
