Overview

**Donitriptan** is a potent, selective, small molecule agonist for the serotonin 5-HT1B and 5-HT1D receptors, previously investigated as an anti-migraine agent. It also displays some agonist activity at the 5-HT2A receptor. Donitriptan belongs to the tryptamine (triptan) drug class, is a derivative of 5-methoxytryptamine, and is chemically related to compounds such as DMT and 5-MeO-DMT. It was originally developed by bioMérieux-Pierre Fabre and reached phase II clinical trials for the treatment of migraine, but development was discontinued and it was never marketed[1][2][3][7].
