Donor-derived CMVpp65-specific T cells are an adoptive cellular immunotherapy developed by Peking University People's Hospital for the treatment and prevention of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), particularly haploidentical HSCT. These T cells are isolated or expanded from the original stem cell donor and are specifically reactive against the CMV pp65 antigen, a major structural protein of the virus. By infusing these virus-specific T cells (VSTs), the therapy aims to rapidly reconstitute the recipient's antiviral immunity, which is often severely compromised post-transplant, thereby clearing CMV viremia and preventing progression to CMV disease without the toxicities associated with traditional antiviral drugs like ganciclovir.
