Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DOPC liposomes are lipid-based nanoparticles composed of the zwitterionic phospholipid 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine. These liposomes form spherical bilayer vesicles that serve as versatile delivery platforms for a variety of therapeutic agents, including antimicrobial peptides (such as LL17-32), siRNA, and small molecule drugs like apigenin or doxorubicin. Characterized by their neutral charge and fluidic membrane properties at physiological temperatures, DOPC liposomes are frequently utilized as model systems for biological membranes and as carriers designed to reduce the cytotoxicity of encapsulated payloads. In preclinical research, they have been investigated for applications in cancer vaccines (often in combination with cationic lipids like DOTAP), targeted therapy for chronic pancreatitis using peptide ligands, and the treatment of oral bacterial infections such as Porphyromonas gingivalis.
