Overview

DOPG liposomes are anionic lipid-based nanoparticles primarily composed of the phospholipid 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1-rac-glycerol) (DOPG). These liposomes are frequently utilized as research tools and model systems to investigate the influence of negative surface charge on the pharmacokinetic properties, biodistribution, and cellular uptake of nanomedicines. In preclinical studies, such as those involving B16 melanoma models, DOPG liposomes have been used to evaluate preferential internalization by various immune cell populations, including dendritic cells and macrophages, within the tumor microenvironment and lymphoid organs like the spleen. They serve as a comparative model alongside cationic (e.g., DOTAP) and neutral (e.g., DOPC) liposomes to optimize drug delivery systems for cancer immunotherapy and other therapeutic applications.
