Overview

Dorzolamide is a small molecule carbonic anhydrase inhibitor used as an ophthalmic solution to lower elevated intraocular pressure in conditions such as open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. It works by inhibiting the enzyme carbonic anhydrase in the ciliary processes of the eye, reducing aqueous humor production and thereby decreasing intraocular pressure. Dorzolamide is a non-bacteriostatic sulfonamide derivative and was first marketed in 1995. It is available as a generic medication after discontinuation of its original brand name product (Trusopt). Dorzolamide may be used alone or in combination with other agents for glaucoma management[2][3][4][5].
