It contains two active ingredients: dorzolamide (20 mg/ml), a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, and timolol (5 mg/ml), a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agent. The formulation is specifically designed to improve tolerability in patients who suffer from ocular surface disease or sensitivity to common preservatives like benzalkonium chloride (BAK). It utilizes the Aptar Pharma Ophthalmic Squeeze Dispenser (OSD) multidose system, which maintains sterility without the need for preservatives. By combining two mechanisms—reducing aqueous humor secretion via carbonic anhydrase inhibition and decreasing aqueous humor production via beta-blockade—the drug effectively lowers elevated intraocular pressure.
