Overview

Dorzolamide + timolol + prostaglandin refers to the combination therapy of three agents used in ophthalmology for the reduction of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in conditions such as open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Dorzolamide is a topical carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that decreases aqueous humor production by inhibiting the enzyme carbonic anhydrase in the ciliary processes. Timolol is a non-selective beta-adrenergic blocker that also reduces aqueous humor production by blocking beta receptors in the eye. Prostaglandin analogs (such as latanoprost, travoprost, or bimatoprost) increase uveoscleral outflow of aqueous humor, further lowering IOP. This triple therapy is typically used when monotherapy or dual therapy does not achieve sufficient IOP control[1][2][4]. The combination provides additive or synergistic effects on lowering IOP and is indicated primarily for patients with glaucoma or ocular hypertension who are insufficiently responsive to other regimens[4].
