dosmalfate

Dosmalfate is a cytoprotective and anti-ulcer agent consisting of a complex of the flavonoid diosmin and aluminum octasulfate. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, as well as acute and chronic gastritis. Similar in mechanism to sucralfate, dosmalfate acts locally by forming a protective polyanionic barrier over ulcerated or inflamed gastric mucosa, which shields the tissue from aggressive factors such as gastric acid, pepsin, and bile salts. The inclusion of diosmin provides additional therapeutic benefits through its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which promote mucosal healing and reduce oxidative stress in the gastric lining. Originally developed by FAES Farma, the drug is manufactured and marketed as a generic or established product by various companies, including Guangzhou Welman Pharmaceutical in China.
