Overview
Doubase C is a phytotherapy-based antiviral drug developed by Creppat Laboratories SARL for the treatment of COVID-19. It is composed of extracts from two Congolese medicinal plants, *Uvaria brevistipitata* and *Harungana madagascariensis*, sourced from forests in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The drug is formulated as a gray, oblong, concave, scored tablet for oral administration. It has been evaluated in a Phase III open-label, randomized, controlled adaptive clinical trial in Kinshasa, DRC, where it was compared to a combination of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin in hospitalized patients with mild to moderate COVID-19. Doubase C is described as a broad-spectrum antiviral and antiretroviral agent targeting SARS-CoV-2 and has been championed by the DRC government as a domestically produced solution to the pandemic.
