Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Doxicil-LB is a generic combination drug product marketed by Acinom Healthcare, an Indian pharmaceutical company. The formulation contains two active ingredients: doxycycline (100 mg), a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic, and Lactic Acid Bacillus (5 billion spores), a probiotic. Doxycycline works by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis and preventing bacterial growth. The addition of Lactic Acid Bacillus (Lactobacillus probiotics) is intended to maintain and restore the balance of gut flora, which is often disrupted during antibiotic treatment, thereby helping to prevent gastrointestinal side effects such as antibiotic-associated diarrhea. This small molecule antibiotic formulation is used to treat various systemic bacterial infections.
