Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Duomeisu is a pegylated liposomal formulation of doxorubicin hydrochloride, an anthracycline antineoplastic agent. Developed by CSPC Pharmaceutical Group, it is designed to improve the therapeutic index of doxorubicin by encapsulating the drug within methoxypolyethylene glycol-coated (pegylated) liposomes. This formulation significantly alters the pharmacokinetic profile, providing a prolonged circulation time and preferential accumulation in tumor tissues through the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect, while simultaneously reducing the risk of cardiotoxicity and alopecia associated with conventional doxorubicin. Its primary mechanism of action involves the inhibition of topoisomerase II and DNA intercalation, which disrupts DNA replication and transcription, leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Duomeisu is widely used in China for the treatment of various malignancies, including epithelial ovarian cancer, breast cancer, and AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma. In the context of clinical research at the Women's Hospital School of Medicine Zhejiang University, it has been evaluated in combination with carboplatin as a first-line treatment for ovarian, fallopian tube, and peritoneal cancers.
