Overview

ABV is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of doxorubicin (Adriamycin), bleomycin, and vinblastine. It was historically a standard of care for advanced HIV-associated Kaposi's sarcoma before the advent of liposomal anthracyclines. Doxorubicin acts by DNA intercalation and topoisomerase II inhibition; bleomycin causes DNA strand breaks through oxidative damage; and vinblastine inhibits microtubule assembly, leading to cell cycle arrest in mitosis. The First Clinical Medical College of Xinjiang Medical University has been involved in clinical studies evaluating this regimen in specific patient populations, particularly in regions with high prevalence of Kaposi's sarcoma.
