doxorubicin + dacarbazine

Doxorubicin + dacarbazine is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of two cytotoxic small molecule agents, doxorubicin and dacarbazine. Doxorubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates DNA, inhibits topoisomerase II, and generates free radicals, leading to DNA damage and apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. Dacarbazine is an alkylating agent that acts as a prodrug; it undergoes metabolic activation to form methylating species that damage DNA by methylation of guanine bases, resulting in inhibition of DNA replication and cell death. This combination has been used primarily for the treatment of advanced or metastatic soft-tissue sarcomas and has also been studied in other cancers such as leiomyosarcoma[5][2]. The drugs are typically administered intravenously.
