Doxorubicin-eluting beads (DEB) are a drug-device combination therapy used in transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The system utilizes biocompatible, non-resorbable hydrogel microspheres, such as the **DC Bead**, which are loaded with the anthracycline antibiotic **doxorubicin**. When administered via the hepatic artery, the beads provide a dual therapeutic effect: they mechanically embolize the tumor-feeding vessels, inducing ischemia and necrosis, while simultaneously providing a sustained, controlled release of doxorubicin directly into the tumor tissue. This localized delivery maximizes the drug concentration within the tumor and significantly reduces systemic exposure and associated toxicities compared to conventional TACE methods.
