Overview
Zuvidox-L is a liposomal formulation of doxorubicin hydrochloride, an anthracycline antineoplastic agent. Developed by Zuvius Lifesciences, it is designed to enhance the therapeutic index of doxorubicin by utilizing a liposomal delivery system, which alters the drug's distribution to favor tumor tissues and reduce systemic toxicities, particularly cardiotoxicity. The mechanism of action involves the intercalation of doxorubicin into DNA and the inhibition of topoisomerase II, leading to the disruption of DNA repair and synthesis, ultimately resulting in cell death. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of various malignancies, including ovarian cancer, multiple myeloma, and AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma.
