Overview

Doxorubicin Teva is a generic formulation of doxorubicin hydrochloride, a potent cytotoxic anthracycline antibiotic used extensively in oncology. Developed in association with the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI-AVL) for specific clinical applications, it is primarily indicated for the treatment of breast cancer, among other malignancies. The drug's mechanism of action involves three primary pathways: intercalation into DNA base pairs, which disrupts DNA synthesis and transcription; inhibition of the enzyme topoisomerase II, preventing the re-ligation of DNA strands during replication; and the induction of oxidative stress through the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that cause membrane and DNA damage. These actions collectively trigger apoptosis in rapidly dividing cancer cells. It is typically administered intravenously, often as a cornerstone of multi-agent chemotherapy protocols.
