Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NanoDOX is a sub-micron, nanosomal formulation of doxycycline monohydrate (1%) incorporated into a hydrogel base, developed by NanoSHIFT LLC. While doxycycline is a well-established tetracycline antibiotic, this specific topical formulation is designed to leverage its potent inhibitory effects on matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), such as MMP-2 and MMP-9. In chronic or dehisced surgical wounds, excessive MMP activity leads to the degradation of the extracellular matrix and growth factors, stalling the healing process. By locally inhibiting these enzymes, NanoDOX aims to restore a balanced wound environment and facilitate closure. The hydrogel delivery system provides a moist wound environment and allows for the controlled release of the active ingredient directly to the affected tissue.
