Overview

Doxycycline + medroxyprogesterone acetate is a combination therapy being investigated for the treatment of chronic endometritis (CE) in patients with recurrent reproductive failure (RRF). Doxycycline is a tetracycline-class antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, addressing the infectious etiology of CE. Medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) is a synthetic derivative of progesterone that acts as a potent agonist of the progesterone receptor. In this therapeutic context, MPA is used to modulate the endometrial environment, potentially enhancing the resolution of inflammation and improving endometrial receptivity for future pregnancies. The combination is currently being evaluated in a randomized controlled trial to determine if it offers superior clinical efficacy and pregnancy outcomes compared to doxycycline monotherapy.
