Overview

Doxylamine is a first-generation antihistamine used primarily as a short-term treatment for insomnia and to relieve symptoms of allergies such as sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and itching. It is also used in combination with other medications to treat symptoms of the common cold and in some formulations for nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. Doxylamine works by competitively inhibiting histamine at Histamine H1 receptor (histamine H1 antagonist), resulting in its sedative and anticholinergic effects. It is classified as a small molecule pharmaceutical drug[1][2][3][5][7].
