Overview

Diclectin is a fixed-dose combination of doxylamine succinate, a first-generation antihistamine, and pyridoxine hydrochloride, a form of vitamin B6. It is specifically indicated for the treatment of nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP) in women who do not respond to conservative management. Doxylamine acts as a competitive antagonist at the H1 receptor and also possesses significant anticholinergic activity, which contributes to its antiemetic properties. Pyridoxine is a water-soluble vitamin that serves as a cofactor in numerous enzymatic reactions, including those involving neurotransmitter synthesis, which may help alleviate pregnancy-related nausea. The drug is formulated as a delayed-release tablet to provide consistent relief. Xiaoke Wu led a significant clinical trial investigating its efficacy alongside acupuncture for moderate to severe NVP.
